Freda

Freda is one of the most downloaded reading apps on the play store. It does not scan for books on the device automatically. You have to add books by yourself. Once you add a book, it starts appearing on the bookshelf. I have tested this app for epub format books. It supports most of the ebook formats except pdf and doc. There is much lag in the response of the app which I think is a little bit annoying when you are totally sunk in the world of your favourite book.

ReadEra

ReadEra is a fantastic app for book lovers. You open this app and navigate to ‘Books & documents’ and you get all your books in one place. By default, it scans the whole of the device storage but you can restrict it to specific locations. The best part of this app is that it is completely free and does not irritate you with pop-up ads. It offers features like ‘To Read’, ‘Have Read’, ‘Authors’, and ‘Series’ to classify your books. You can even create your defined collections. This app gives a very pleasuring book reading experience. The navigation through the book is very smooth. It is my personal favourite app for ebook reading on my Samsung Tab4.

Epub reader by Librera

Epub reading is the most featured ebook reader app available on the play store. The moment you open this app for the very first time, it scans the whole of your tablet or mobile phone memory for available books and documents and displays the complete list in the library section. The app supports a wide range of file formats like pdf, DJVU, EPUB, FB2, DOC, and many more. You can even open a compressed ebook (RAR, ZIP). Book loads fast in this app and there is no lag in page-turning.

PocketBook

PocketBook is the only app on this list with a page-turning animation without any lag. It makes you feel like reading a real book. The android app opens books of almost any format. It is the second app that opens books in compressed form also. Its two-page reading mode in landscape orientation feels like reading a real book. This app is also completely free and does not show any add while reading.

It is a simple app and does not offer many customization options. It supports only epub file types. You open books from your device or google drive or free book sites. It has a night reading mode but does not provide brightness control option who have to completely rely on the device’s brightness. you can copy text from the book and even share it on social media platforms or simply mail to someone but you cannot make a note on the book page. Overall, it is a good reading app for devices with low RAM because of its low RAM usage.

tolino offers good UI. It supports only epub and pdf file types and audiobooks. tolino offers more than 2 million ebooks and audiobooks from its online book store. You can conveniently organize books in different collections, create a note within the text of the book, highlight text and change the color of the background.
